Laphroaig Quarter Cask 48% Vol. 0,7l in Giftbox

Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory group. The buildings of the distillery are classified in the Scottish heritage lists. In the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor. This whiskey is the original whiskey, which was distilled 75 years ago. Awards: - Gold Medal in 2018 at the International Spirits Challenge. The Quarter Cask was matured in normal ex-bourbon casks and then allowed to mature in small quarter casks (without sherry). This gives this Laphroaig a grandiose interplay of smoke and oak. Quarter casks are casks that were used in the 19th century and were still transported with pack mules. Because of the smaller volume of these barrels, the contact surface of the maturing whisky to the wood is about 60 percent larger compared to barrels commonly used today.
