The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century and in particular the First World War, which destroyed half of the Domaine Louis Roederer, led Léon Olry Roederer to rebuild his vineyard. He decided to buy grapes to ensure the continuity of the house in these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine from several vintages with a constant taste, regardless of the year of harvest. Collection 242 is 56% from the 2017 vintage (42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Meunier) plus 10% reserve wines and 34% Réserve Perpétuelle. It brings together the wines aged in oak barrels of the three grape varieties of Champagne, from different crus selected by Louis Roederer. This wine was named due to the 242nd wine composition of the house and is the successor of Brut Premier. Aging takes place for three to four years in its own cellars. Tasting notes:Pale golden yellow with brilliant reflections and fine bubbles in the glass. A bouquet of citrus, acacia flowers, roasted hazelnuts and white-fleshed fruits. On the palate, delicate roasted aromas with fruity and sweet notes of white-fleshed fruits. The finish is long and persistent. Grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier.
